A MUSICIAN AND A MAGICIAN!

In the mid 90’s, myself and Catherine Britt were doing the "kid's talent quest" circuit together!

Since those early days, Catherine has gone on to become without question, one of Australia’s greatest country music artists! She has had singles in the top 40, acclaimed albums, ARIA Music Award nominations and she spent a couple of years living in Nashville USA. She still does multiple overseas appearances every year, doing, the Australian Music scene proud 👏 

I had the special privilege of sharing my magic with her family at a recent private party event.

SANTA CLAUSE IS COMING TO TOWN!

WELL DONE MIA!

It's very exciting to see my assistant Mia in the role of Dance Captin of "Pop Stars". The show is packed with dance numbers and 90’s pop classics.

A FUNNY STORY!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of working with the Year 5 students at St Phillips Christian College. They were a great group and my program was well received. 

I arrived early and while waiting at the front of the campus building for the Groundsman to direct me to the Drama rooms, a school staff member stopped to chat with me. She thanked me for the great show I did at her Daughter's 6th Birthday. She paused her story and said, "my daughter is here today, I'll go and grab her as she would love to see you again and personally thank you for the show".

Next thing I know the lady returned with one of the Kindergarten Teachers - a very professional looking lady in a blazer!  To my surprise that Kindergarten teacher WAS her Daughter who I apparently did the show for years ago 😅 I was not much older than she was at the time of her birthday party!

THE COMMODORE'S GALA NIGHT!

It's an elegant night of Meals,  Magic, Music, and a silent auction to raise money for Alfred's Community Sailing Program.

I am very excited to be bringing my stage magic spectacular back to the Richmond School Of Arts Theatre on the 23rd January 2025 at 11am.

The show will include award winning sleight of hand, a live rabbit, audience participation, a stunning showgirl and more fun than you could wave a wand at! It is a family friendly magical experience that is not to be missed!!

I have a very special treat planned for those in the Newcastle / Hunter Valley areas during the Festive Season. I'm bringing an ALL NEW show to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre. There will be ONE SHOW ONLY on the 19th December 2024 at 6pm.

This one man production will be complete with festive music and backdrop, Audience Participation, Award - Winning Sleight of Hand and a very cheeky Puppet Santa!

This is my FIFTH year doing these Christmas Shows at My PACC . It is becoming a Christmas tradition for families in the area!

IN THE NEWS!

Three years ago, I said yes to a "Roving Elf Character" job in Maitland. A colleague who was booked to do it got COVID and I thought it was good Karma to help out. On the day of the gig there was a photographer present who snapped a few photographs for future promotions.  

Today, I picked up a copy of Newcastle Weekly Magazine and spotted a photo of myself as an Elf!

This unexpected publicity is great for my "Elf - esteem"?! 

STAFF WELL-BEING!

This evening I had the special privilege of presenting a well-being session for a group of Early Childhood Educators.

I suspect that some Educators who are very passionate about what they do, work so hard at looking after children that they may forget about looking after themselves too! It was great to get together with them and have some laughs, some fun and some pizza!

PERFORMING FOR MY PEERS!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure and privilege of performing for my peers as a special guest artist at an industry day for Australian Magicians held in Sydney. 

Myself, Magic Circle Vice President Lee Hathaway and Magic Circle top award winner Mathew Le Motte (both visiting from the UK) circulated among three rooms of magicians who were all seated at close-up tables and invited to "watch the performers carefully". No pressure!

There was great feedback following my close up show and I enjoyed the day immensely. 

 "The audience was mesmerised by the sublime talent of Australia’s very own - Joel Howlett".

It was great to work with Winning Appliances at Sydney's beautiful Ryde Paramatta Golf Club this evening.

After a competitive day of Golf, the team were treated to a buffet dinner and sleight of hand magic!

The performance recieved a great response from the crowd and concluded to a standing ovation that was led by the Club's General Manager!!

I would like to wish all the Dads, Step Dads, Grandpas, Male Teachers and Father Figures a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY for tomorrow.

CORPORATE MAGIC!

A local gym called 'Magic Motivation Fitness' very appropriately hired a Magician (ME!!) to appear at their annual ball this evening!

It is an elegant night of sleight of hand magic, meals and music.

The folks attending were such a fun and appreciative audience. 

AN AWARD WINNING SERVICE IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY!

I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that JD's World of Magic has just been announced as THE WINNER of the 2024 "Speciality Services Award" at The Sassies Wedding Industry Night this evening. 

THANK YOU so very much to the Celebrants who nominated me, the public who voted for me and most importantly to the couples who had me entertain or MC at their Weddings. I truly appreciate it. 

MOMENTS OF MAGIC!

When I perform "Close Up Strolling Magic" at events, I don't just "wander around doing dry card tricks" (I've heard some horror stories from clients). But rather I bring an experience that I guarantee will leave guests amused and amazed. 

This unique style of magic has a big impact as many people have never seen magic being performed live, let alone happening right under their nose or in their own hands!! My Strolling Magic has been described as being "the perfect ice-breaker" and there are always complements on how much fun it adds to the atmosphere.

Last Saturday night Chris from Atlantis Creative captured these excellent candid photos of the responses to my magic as I worked my way around the crowd at the Wauchope Business Awards between the speeches and formalities.
